Changing the Curtains for Winter

I'm preparing my home for winter. I've put in the storm windows and replaced the weatherstripping. I have never changed my curtains, but I recently read that putting up heavier drapes can actually help insulate the room. I'm going to try this this year and see if it helps save on energy costs. Have any of you done this and noticed a difference?

I always change my curtains based on the time of the year. Thicker fabrics like velvet and lined polyester are well suited for winter fabrics. They effectively keep old air, light and sound out.

Thicker curtains are definitely better for the winter. I also change my curtains when it starts getting cold. Some of them do insulate the rooms.
